Beyond Dress Code

BEYOND DRESS CODES - SHOOTING THE CATALOGUE from UN NOUVEAU IDEAL on Vimeo.

I have always been fascinated in what goes one behind the scenes. There is an idealized notion of glitz and glamour in fashion, so a look at the hard work that goes on behind the scenes it keeps my head out of the clouds. I know this is a tough industry, but sometimes the delusions over power the logic.

Marina & The Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot (Penguin Prison Mix)

marina and the diamonds

Three Words "This Mix Rocks". So I at Work we have this thing called "Viva-Radio" which sucks ass, but every now & then there is a gem, and this song came out like a diamond in the rough. I have the original version on my Itunes, but I have never heard this mix before, once it hit my ears it was love at first wave.

BergDorf's Windows

Maybe I'm just A sucker For presentation

One thought, that may not be particularly articulate, but AWESOME.As a visual merchandiser I have come to appreciate the value of a good window display and these are truly inspired, but what else would you expect from Bergdorf?  Travel mixed with a hint of fantasy, density, use of foreground, middle ground & background, the textures, and shapes of the objects used pure aesthetic genius.

Bak Kyra 2010 Campaign

If you don't know by now, I'm a sucker for a good angle and a little perspective. This editorial featuring the collection of Hungarian designer Bak Kyra was shot by none other than Bence Bakyoni. The dark line up of contemporary pieces is juxtaposed with a white gives the picture a quirky attribute.

Sucker for A Naturally Chic Girl...

These Photos are apart of a  Promo for Hermes. Which in November and December will be opening pop-up temporary shop locations in London. Oh, how I long to be across the pond. I keep my ear to the sand  in hopes that the ocean reveals its secrets of how to get there. Got to love those Beatles when your speechless they'll find the words.

Disheveled Double up!

Jenni Porkka Styled a lovely editorial for "Zink" Magazine Entitled Pink.

Got to say the lack of focus hurts my eyes but gives the editorial a unique perspective. The styling reminds me of my childhood visits to Capetown to see my family, On street in Durban there was a performer and a domesticated lungar dancing along (Just the cutest thing). In a place where anything can happen, everything happens.

INDUSTRIE

Latest cover has landed.

The Magazine Industrie with its second issue has really struck a chord. You might remember the first issue of Anna Wintour? This time the magazine is adorned with none other than Marc Jacobs, wearing women's clothes.

Photographed by the world renowned Patrick Demarchelier and the styling is by Katie Grand . Fantastic!

Dont Rain On My Parade... Oh The Costuming

Barbra Streisand. I grew up on this woman, pardon me if I sound like the stereotypical show tune loving gay, but there is an air of regal class to her that has yet to be reproduced and that is why she is so iconic. The costuming in the movie Funny Girl is one of my favorites, so many of the trends depicted can be re-adapted in modern society. I feel like with everything so gear toward futurism in fashion a touch of classical-ism would be nice. Though it does slightly remind me of the 2010 Dior Haute Couture Show.

Oh Thee Avant-Garde. The reason I love fashion is that it is so open to your own interpretation, even though people try to dictate - what is fashionable. Fashion has its own life there is no one path to it.

Stefano Gabbana Doesn't Know Who Stella McCartney Is?

Twitter Conversation with designer Stefano Gabbana pronounce that he does not know who Stella McCartney as proliferated on the Internet, however, looks the most like a mockery. In any case, designer shade!

Fabio Viscovo - I LOVE Stella McCartney!

Best Coast- Boyfriend

So Best Coast was recently in town, and I am totally kicking myself for not being able to go. I love them, with a sound so distinct, vocal melodies and rythms so akin to circa 50's  malt shop music. Here is a track from their latest album that has been ringing in my head for the last three weeks.

So have any of you ever seen the film Grey Gardens? Im not taking about the recent HBO remake of grey gardens, but the original documentary shot by The Maysles brothers. That never ending web of enchanting crazy that is Edith Beale captured beautiful on one screen now channel into one shoot. I am simple wondering why no one thought to do this sooner?

Lanvin SS 2011

S/S collection for 2011.

I do not fully share the enthusiasm that many seem to have, the Lanvin spring and summer collection. Color-wise Alber Elbaz commanded on earthy tones and dull shades of khaki and petrol blue, mixed with scarlet. It was a much cleaner look and not nearly as ornate as we are used to seeing Lanvin . Billowing silk skirts and zipper details. Some garments shared zippers parting the garment in two, as in, a dress one side draped in silk and the other was a simple cut dress without sleeves. Many of the models wore flat sandals, flats are definitely right for spring and summer of 2011.

The shiny parka above contributed to the sporty feel of the collection. One of my favorites looks, along with an ornate khaki colored top.

Art Is Heart, Heart Is art

Perhaps looking for an encore of her last editorial for Citizen K, Harley Weir reunites with Richie Cotterell for another dynamic story. Turning the focus on art with models as their canvas, Weir is joined by stylist Jérôme André once more for a wardrobe that proves to be both tender and provocative. Mixing up the chemistry with the strong addition of Petey Wright, an intriguing tale of discovery unfolds.

Carolyn Massey SS11 Featuring Abiah Hostvebt

Abiah Hostvedt’s recent stay in London results in a poignant film from Chris Brooks for Carolyn Massey’s spring 2011 collection. Styled by Stevie Westgarth, the Elite/Redmodel spends a thoughtful day wandering with Massey’s take on a smart wardrobe helping to set the mood.

Lately Ive been feeling disconnected from my african roots, so I looked to POP AFRICANA for some much need inspiration although I didn't find the afrocentrism I thought I would. Inspiration did strike! I thought  to myself fashion is universal there is no race ,religion or creed in it thats why it uplifts the masses so.
